2014 Field Day

June 28 - June 29, 2014

- Over 400 Contacts were made throughout world.  About 300 of them were in phone mode and the remainder (that's almost 100) were made in CW exclusively by Jim, KF7E.  All radio station equipment was provided by Dennis - KF7RYX, Jim - KF7E, amd Joe - N2QOJ.  Dennis also provided most of the antenna systems, the emergency power generator (and gas), antenna masting, and just about all the glue that held the event together.

- Two Field Day Stations and one GOTA (Get-On-The-Air) station were in operation continuously. ( BTW, Icom (IC-735), Kenwood (TS-570), and Yaesu (FT-897, FT-350) were all represented.  Our special event 1X1 call sign of "N7Q" was a hit.  We will look to use this call again for "Radios on the Rim" and more.

- All contacts were logged via laptop.  The Field Day wireless network was installed and maintained by Rick, KF7MCA.  This network allowed networked laptops to log to a central file system.  The software we use is N3FJP's ARRL Field Day Contest Log Version 4.2.

- A lot of the event was streamed live via USTREAM.  Some of the archived video can be found at:  http://www.ustream.tv/channel/arizona-joe

- Brad, N7LZD, provided a fully functional Direct TV system for use during the event.  Sunday breakfast was also sponsored by Brad - thank you!

- Janet, KF7SLQ, stopped by to log, operate, and also provided a very tasty pasta dinner for the crew on Saturday evening.

- Janell, KF7WWJ, provided a brief - but complete - presentation of the phonetics to be used during Field Day operations.  Thanks to Janell's OM, Jim, KC7QPI, for his temporary repair of our front door.

- Our QCECG member Brad, KF5AZH, stopped for a visit after rock climbing certification and made (sponsored too!) a pizza run for us Saturday afternoon - thank you!

- Cole, KD7YHT, provided excellent setup support especially with his 48 foot boom bucket truck and expertise.

- Bruce, KF6EZT, and Karen, KF6ODI visited with (7) grand-kids, and (2) daughters (didn't see any pets).  His visit allows us to claim some additional points for our FD application since Bruce is the director of our Queen Creek Emergency Communications Group and Town liaison.

- Turn out for setup and operation was exceptional - Thank you!  Visitors included new hams, old hams, non-hams, friends, family and several hams that were looking to join in the Field Day fun close to home and found us on the ARRL Field Day Locator page.

- John, W1AI, and Kristina, KT1NA, owners of Ham Test Online , not only visited and operated our stations, but also brought some nice giveaways - pens and bumper stickers - perfect for our public service event.  Visit their site for online training information:  http://www.hamradiolicenseexam.com/ .

- Fred, AB7JF, of the East Valley VE TEAM, once again generously provided his time and service to provide a testing session for technician licensing.  We had eight (8) passes.  Congratulations to these new hams.

- The announcement for our FD was carried by several news organizations including a nice article by Independent News Media:  http://arizona.newszap.com/eastvalley/133074-114/queen-creek-radio-hams-to-host-overnight-field-day

- And in between all these activities, Dennis, KF7RYX, had time to demonstrate some handheld radio functions and also check out a radio or two for some folks.

- The Youth Center facility provided by the Town of Queen Creek was a great place to host our event.  We thank Joe LaFortune, Emergency Manager for the Town of Queen Creek, for his fantastic and continued support of our local ham community and sponsorship of the Queen Creek Emergency Communications Group.

We had folks taking photos and videos and will make them available at our Youtube channel and Facebook page.  At some point, I'll post a list of all the folks who participated with setup, logging, operating, take-down, and more.  But, in the meantime, Dennis and I thank each of you very much.  You all made this a great success for our local community and the greater ham community.  As we say in ham radio - fine business.
